nshorb Don't let the understated nature of these sketches fool you. Where most ambient music seeks texture in endless layers, Alex finds the texture of each individual instrument and makes them characters each with something to say as they dialogue and play with one another. Like Alex himself, they never say too much, but they always say just enough, and always with a twinkle in the eye. Favorite track: Older Dogs.

Joe Borreson Alex is a rare talent in capturing that wistful feeling of summer days gone by, but as remembered in dreams: all with understated warmth & grace. The stand up bass has prominence on most songs, plucked or bowed with sweet, lilting guitar interplay & what sounds like warm synths underneath holding it all together. My only complaint is the songs are short & I could envision several going on for at least 5 minutes longer each, leaving an even deeper impression. Favorite track: Older Dogs.
Lost Tribe Sound

Lost Tribe Sound Sailcloth, where you been all my life. This EP is such a hidden gem, seems to have gone by so many musical radars. Love hearing ambient that's this interesting. The star of the show for me is the upright bass! Love the bit of aggression in the midst of the album as well, this is music that shares its emotions with honed percision. Now I just need more of it! Favorite track: Keep It.

John Newcomer Moving from achingly beautiful ambient music to full-on Fripp/Eno audio assault, Sailcloth's 'Close Keeping' is a new fav. Favorite track: Keep It.

about

My home was broken into early in the afternoon in 2012. The only item stolen in the break-in was the laptop that I had centered my writing around. “Close Keeping” was recorded in the years following that theft on a 4-track cassette recorder gifted from a friend.
